How do young people, parents, and future parents manage the pressures of work, family responsibilities, and personal wellbeing? Module 4: Work–Life Balance and Childcare Systems explores how employment conditions, childcare availability, and social expectations shape the everyday realities of young families.
In this module, learners will dive into real examples from across Europe, comparing childcare models, parental leave systems, flexible work arrangements, and cultural norms that influence who cares, who works, and who gets left behind. Through interactive activities, Youth Workers will analyse barriers, map support networks, and uncover what makes family life easier—or harder—in different contexts.
By the end of the module, learners will gain greater awareness, practical tools, and confidence to support young people in navigating work–life challenges and advocating for more family-friendly environments.
Thought-provoking question:
If childcare were universally affordable and accessible, how many young people would choose to start a family earlier?
