How do young people understand fertility and reproductive health, and how do myths, partial information, and social narratives shape their perceptions and decisions?
This module explores fertility as a topic that is often surrounded by misinformation, silence, and gendered assumptions.
It examines how fertility is influenced not only by age, but also by lifestyle factors, everyday habits, stress, and broader social expectations. It challenges common beliefs, such as the idea that fertility concerns only women, that men’s fertility is unaffected by age, or that assisted reproductive technologies can guarantee pregnancy at any stage of life, by separating myths from facts.
Through guided reflection and accessible explanations, learners develop greater awareness of how personal choices, social pressures, and misinformation interact in shaping reproductive health decisions.
Youth Workers are supported in creating safe, non-judgmental spaces where young people can ask questions, build understanding, and engage with the topic without fear or stigma.
By the end of the module, learners will have increased awareness, clearer understanding of key fertility-related issues, and greater confidence to discuss reproductive health in informed and sensitive ways.
Question: Which common belief about fertility did you realise might actually be a myth?
